Desloratadine selectively blocks peripheral H1 receptors to interrupt histamine-driven allergic symptoms and also inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokine release.
Desloratadine is a major active metabolite of loratadine. It selectively blocks peripheral histamine H1 receptors. When an allergen triggers histamine release from mast cells, desloratadine prevents histamine from attaching to these receptors and helps stop the cascade that causes allergic symptoms. It also inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
