Doxycycline inhibits susceptible bacterial protein synthesis, while enteric-coated probiotic spores are designed to pass through stomach acid and reach the intestines.
Doxycycline binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and stopping bacterial growth and reproduction (bacteriostatic effect). In dermatological and inflammatory conditions, it also has direct anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases and pro-inflammatory cytokines.
This beneficial probiotic strain (Bacillus coagulans / Lactobacillus) produces lactic acid in the intestine, creating an acidic environment that suppresses overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria and yeasts. The enteric coating helps spores survive stomach acid so they can reach the intestines alive.
