Mometasone furoate is a medium-to-potent synthetic topical corticosteroid. It acts through glucocorticoid signaling to suppress inflammatory responses, including cytokine- and histamine-mediated activity. Lipocortin activity also helps limit the release of inflammatory mediators.
It constricts small blood vessels in the skin, reducing localized blood flow, fluid accumulation, redness, and swelling at the application site.
By reducing skin inflammation, it can alleviate pruritus (itching) and help reduce dry, scaly patches associated with inflammatory skin conditions.
Commonly prescribed for mild-to-moderate dermatological issues, including atopic dermatitis (eczema), plaque psoriasis, allergic contact dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis.
